The new Toyota Avensis 2016 will be officially presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The Avensis is a medium to large size family car which directly competes with the Mondeo as well as a few other cars out there. The current model is the third generation of the car and it has been around since the late 2008 so it is quite an old car by now especially when you take into account that Toyota didn’t change much about it since then. However, there is going to be a 2016 Toyota Avensis which is actually going to be a brand new model built from scratch on a new modular platform.
Toyota Avensis 2016 redesign
The outside of the 2016 Toyota Avensis hasn’t been revealed to the public just yet but there are a few spy shots which do show a changed car. The front end will get a bigger grille while the headlights are going to be slimmer. The general shape and size of the car however look to be very similar to the older model. On the interior, the new Toyota Avensis 2016 is likely to grow in size thanks to a better layout. The materials are expected to be of a better quality while the general interior equipment level should now be a step over the previous car and at least on par with some of its competitors.
2016 Toyota Avensis review
Let’s start our small preview with the engines that should come on the new 2016 Toyota Avensis. All the current powertrains are going to be discontinued and replaced with BMW sourced engines. This is because all of the older engines were quite inefficient in terms of power and fuel consumption. The new base engine is expected to be a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder unit with 140 horsepower while the old 1.8-liter engine is going to be replaced with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline 3 with as much as 180 horsepower. The old 2.2-liter diesel will be replaced by a more fuel efficient 2-liter unit with even more power than before.
All of these are going to be mated either to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT unit with front wheel drive as standard. A four wheel drive model might be introduced in the future as well.
Toyota Avensis 2016 release date and price
In size 2016 Toyota Avensis will be similar to the ongoing model but pretty much everything else will change. The design, the engines as well as its interior are going to be better than before. All of these should take the car’s cost up but instead Toyota will keep the Avensis under the equivalent of €20,000 depending on the market it will be sold in. These are great news especially when all of its competitors cost a lot more than that. The release date for the new Toyota Avensis 2016 has been rumored to be in the first half of 2016.
