The GS is Lexus’s entry in the medium executive class, offering outstanding luxury and great engines which not only take you where you need to go, but they take you there fast. The 2016 Lexus GS will be a mid-life facelift of a model which has been on the market for more than 3 years already. This update will give it improved engines as well as a brand new model which will make the GS a serious competitor in the medium size executive car segment. As far as we know, this update won’t change that many things to its exterior mainly because it already follows Lexus’s own design scheme. The big changes will happen both to the interior of the Lexus GS 2016 as well as under the hood, but more on that later.
2016 Lexus GS redesign
Just as we said, 2016 Lexus GS exterior will remain pretty similar to the current generation, so expect only minor changes. From what we know so far it seems that the car will get a new pair of headlights as well as a new front grille. The back will feature either integrated exhaust in the bumper for the normal models or a hidden exhaust for the hybrid model. On the interior the Lexus GS 2016 will get the same level of luxury as before, meaning that even the most basic car will get things such as leather upholstery, a rear view camera, satellite navigation, surround sound and electric front and rear seats.
Lexus GS 2016 specs
Engine wise, the 2016 Lexus GS will feature a selection of engines. The usual models will get the same engine as before, meaning a 3.5 liter V6 and a 2.5 liter hybrid will be offered as standard and unchanged over the previous car. The news come in the form of the GS F which for the first time ever will be offered on this generation. This model will get a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 which will make 473 horsepower and 389 lb-ft of torque. Lexus GS 2016 with both engines will be paired with 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on steering wheel. GS-F will come with rear-wheel-drive system with Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) and three operating modes: Standard, Slalom and Track. The performance of it will be outstanding with a 0 to 60 time of less than 5 seconds and a top speed of over 170 mph, meaning that the GS-F will be a real contender for the M5 or even for the E63 AMG.
2016 Lexus GS release date and price
The 2016 Lexus GS base price should start at around $60,000 or a bit less which is just where the older model was. The top of the range on the other hand will cost nearly $125,000 which is a 25% increase over the previous generation. The standard version of Lexus GS 2016 will be available for buyers later this year while sport version GS-F was officially presented at 2015 Detroit International Car Show.
